Learning center expansion moves forward

The Kansas City Star

A Jewish learning center will soon expand in Overland Park.

The Torah Learning Center, 8800 W. 103rd St., has earned final approval from the Overland Park Planning Commission for two expansions.

The center is part of the Chabad Lubavitch movement. It is a Hasidic Jewish movement that is dedicated to caring, helping and teaching everyone, no matter what religion, through study of the Torah.

The center now uses a 1,500-square-foot house for its headquarters. The 4,160-square-foot addition will include a synagogue and dining area so the center will be able to hold services and dinners. Now large programs are held at the Jewish Community Center and area synagogues.

The center also won planning commission approval for a 2,250-square-foot addition for classroom space sometime in the future. The first phase is expected to cost about $800,000. The center has about three-fourths of the cost covered.
